Our History
From an electoral campaign in 2020 to the development of a climate organization with continuous incidence today, our history reflects the evolution of advocacy and popular mobilization beyond the ballot box.

2020
- Beginning of our activities as Climate of Election (Clima de Eleição, in Portuguese), a campaign to train candidates in the climate agenda during the municipal elections.
- Vote for Climate 2020 (Vote pelo Clima 2020), the 1st edition of the platform that connects candidates committed to tackling climate change with the electorate.
- Analysis of governmental plans for the 2016 and 2020 elections, seeking to understand which and how many candidates for the mayors’ office recognized the existence of the climate crisis.
- The Youth Policy Case Competition from TEP-A of the UNFCCC, winning among 61 global ideas to encourage public policies for adaptation to climate change.
2021
- Launch of Mandatos-C, our network of parliamentarians for climate action, with the 20 climate concilors elected the previous year.
- Climate Action in Pará (Clima de Ação no Pará), a climate course for cities and communities in Pará, which reached more than 71 of the state's 144 municipalities, training managers and citizens.
- CAJU – Climate Advocacy for Youth1st edition of virtual training on political advocacy for climate justice for young activists.
- Selection of the organization as one of 5 finalists among 89 entries from 40 countries in the Net Zero Challenge of Open Knowledge Foundation, a global competition for projects that use open data for climate action.
- Selection of the organization as one of 40 socio-environmental impact initiatives for the acceleration of the Legacy Project.
- Participation in COP26 in Glasgow, representing the Mandates-C (Mandatos-C) network and its success stories, and officially receiving international recognition from the UNFCCC.
2022
- Registration of Climate of Election (Clima de Eleição, in Portuguese) as a non-profit, non-partisan civil society organization dedicated to climate advocacy with ongoing activities.
- Vote for Climate (Vote pelo Clima) 2022, 2nd edition of the candidate connection platform, reaching 800 candidates from across the country.
- Climate for Candidates (Clima para Candidaturas), training for candidates on climate change, focused on how to connect the climate agenda to people's reality.
- Advocacy Route (Rota do Advocacy), a project to mobilize party directories and candidates for the climate agenda, which covered 18 federal states.
- CAJU 2.02nd edition of training on climate advocacy for youth, this time focused on youth collectives and organizations.
- Jandyras Coalitioncoalition in the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) program, together with Mandí and Moara, and support for the formation of the Jandyras Network,a network of women activists in Belém for climate justice.
- Participation in COP27 in Sharm Al-Sheikh, where we delivered the social participation agenda to the Lula Government Transition Working Group.
2023
- Start of our term as secretariat of the Climate Working Group of the Parliamentary Environmental Caucus (GT Clima), coordinating a coalition of parliamentarians and civil society organizations in the National Congress.
- Adaptajuvimplemented with Greenpeace Brazil,, an advocacy training program for climate adaptation, aimed at groups of young activists in urban and peripheral areas of Manaus, Recife, and São Paulo.
- Amazon in the Elections (Amazônia nas Eleições), a research that surveyed political leaders in the states of the Legal Amazon on expectations for climate agendas in the elections, to generate insights for electoral advocacy campaigns.
- Mini-course on climate change para a for UNICEF Brazil,, with six modules covering topics from climate science to youth engagement in politics, as well as support materials for teachers.
- Apuama Coalitionas an evolution of the Jandyras Coalition, an initiative with Mandí, Jandyras, and Mirí, under the VCF program, aiming to strengthen climate collectives in Pará.
- Participation in COP28 in Dubai.
- The Chico Mendes Award recognizing us as one of the organizations that carry on the legacy of the rubber-tapper environmental leader.
2024
- Vote for Climate (Vote pelo Clima 2024), 3rd edition of the climate candidacy platform, in partnership with NOSSAS, engaging 1,500 candidates and reaching over 400,000 visits.
- Analysis of governmental plans for the 2024 elections, seeking to understand the presence or absence of climate agendas in the governmental plans of the four favorite candidates to mayor of six Brazilian capitals.
- Participation in COP29 in Baku.
2025
- Change of the organization name to The Institute Climate Politics, reinforcing our ongoing work, not only during the elections, but also consolidating and expanding our initiatives, partnerships, campaigns, and networks. Our goal of promoting a just climate transition in Brazil continues.
- Parliamentary Diplomacy Program for COP30 (Programa de Diplomacia Parlamentar para a COP30), to boost the participation of Brazilian parliamentarians in international negotiations, so that they can translate our NDC into national policies and strengthen multilateralism.
- Support, in partnership with the CIPÓ Platform, the campaign to formalize the Parliamentary Constituency, under the UNFCCC, engaging over 100 parliamentarians across the globe, aiming to strengthen global climate governance.
- Participation in COP30 in Belém, where we supported the delivery of the Parliamentarians' Letter to the UNFCCC Secretariat, together with the largest Brazilian delegation of parliamentarians in the history of the negotiations.
